Liechtenstein Religion

The Catholic Church is a state church in Liechtenstein and just over three in four are Catholics. Religious freedom prevails and even Protestant and Muslim communities receive state support.

The position of the Catholic Church is quite strong, which is reflected in conservative values in social issues (see also Modern History and Social Conditions). Work is underway to separate state and church, on the advice of the prince. The proportion of Muslims is low but has grown over the last couple of decades, through the immigration of people with roots mainly in Turkey and the former Yugoslavia.
