The central information and service desk (Mon-Sun 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.) is located in the Airport Plaza on level 0 (Tel: 040 5075 0). The counter provides information about the airport, travel insurance and other general questions and makes hotel reservations. Tickets for the Airport Express and Kielius buses, the Hamburg Card, travel goods and souvenirs are also available here.

Via the airport website and the Hamburg Airport app, the airport provides live information about waiting times at the security checkpoint under the Arrivals / Departures section. The information is updated every 15 minutes.

Directions:

The airport is located between the bypasses R2 and R3 on federal road 433 and is well signposted from Hamburg city center.

Coming from Hamburg city center: In traffic-intensive times, there is often a traffic jam on the A7 motorway, which connects the airport directly with Hamburg city center. Current construction measures can cause additional disabilities / delays. The normal travel time from the city center is 30 minutes.

Coming from Lower Saxony: Autobahn A7, exit Schnelsen-Nord.

Coming from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Autobahn A1 and A24, exit Horn on the A24.

Transfer between the terminals:

The terminals are connected by the Airport Plaza. A free shuttle bus runs between the terminal entrance and the holiday car park P8-9 every 20 minutes (travel time approx. 10 minutes).

Public transportation

Public transport – street:

Bus: The bus stops are in front of Terminals 1 and 2. The “Lufthansa base” stop is at the holiday car park P8-P9 (Weg bei Jäger). You can change to the Holiday Shuttle bus, which goes to the terminals and back free of charge (from 3:40 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. every 20 minutes).

Various regular buses also go to the city center (bus 34) and to other destinations in the vicinity. There are shuttle connections to Bremen, among others. Information on this is available on the airport website and from the Hamburg Transport Association HVV .

Intercity buses: Flixbus connects Hamburg Airport directly with Hanover and Bremen.

The Kielius the Bahn AG  runs daily from Kiel / Neumünster to Hamburg Airport.

Taxi: Taxis and limousines are available at any time in front of the terminals (travel time to Hamburg city center: approx. 30 minutes depending on traffic conditions. Travel costs: approx. € 25). Official taxis are cream colored. Taxi companies at the airport include Hansa Taxi 211211  and  Taxi Hamburg (only with advance booking). Other taxi companies serving the airport are listed on the airport website. Reservations are possible.

Public transport – train:

U- / S-Bahn: Hamburg Airport Helmut Schmidt is one of the few urban airports in Europe. The airport S-Bahn (S1) (Tel: +49 40 3918 4385; Internet: www.s-bahn-hamburg.de) transports passengers every 10 minutes on weekdays and every 20 minutes on weekends directly from Airport in just 25 minutes to the main train station in downtown Hamburg. The S-Bahn station is directly in front of the terminals and can be reached via stairs, escalators and elevators.

Money:

Banks and ATMs, some of which are open all the time, are available in Terminal 1 and 2. There are several money exchange counters.

Means of communication:

A post office (Mon-Fri 8 am-8pm and Sat 9 am-1pm) and courier services are located in Terminal 2. Wireless Internet access is available, the first 60 minutes are free. Public telephones are available.

Gastronomy:

There are numerous restaurants, bars and cafés, especially in the Airport Plaza between Terminal 1 and 2.

Shopping:

The modern Airport Plaza offers travelers everything their hearts desire: luxury boutiques, cosmetic shops, press dealers and duty-free shops.

Luggage:

A porter service, subject to charges, can be requested in the terminal from the port call columns or the information desks. The company SecuServe accepts pre-orders from Mon-Fri (Tel. (040) 507 520 10; at least 24 hours in advance). Luggage storage is located in the arrivals area of ​​Terminal 2, Level 1. It is open from 4:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. A machine for packing luggage in foil is located in Terminal 1 in the arrival area. Lost and found items can be handed in or picked up in the Airport Office (Tel: +49 40 50750) in the Airport Plaza (daily from 6.30 a.m. to 11 p.m.).

Other facilities:

The airport has a pharmacy, a Chi-Mas Massage Institute at Gate 20, a first aid service, a dentist and children’s play areas in both terminals. There is also a hairdressing salon, travel agencies, smoking areas, textile cleaning and a chapel. The airport facilities are mainly located in Terminal 2.

The Mövenpick Meet & Dine Airport Conference Center (ACC) (Tel: (040) 50 75 33 38) in Terminal 2, Level 2, offers 13 conference rooms of various sizes. In addition, the ACC offers a comprehensive business service: telephone, fax, copy service or translation work.

The Airport Conference Center Lilienthal-Haus (Tel: (040) 50 75 2500) offers 7 conference rooms for up to 50 people.

Other event spaces include the airport model show presentation room with the latest media technology and 120 seats (Tel: (040) 50 75 36 76) and the Tango Terminal (the former charter terminal) for a maximum of 2,500 people (Tel: (040) 5075 3607) .

Exclusive waiting areas and lounges are available from Lufthansa at Gate A19 level 1, as well as an Emirates Lounge at Airport Plaza level 3 and from Airberlin at Gate A14.

Parking spaces:

The parking guidance system for the approximately 12,000 parking spaces in the eight parking garages and car parks informs arriving drivers within a radius of one and a half kilometers of the airport about the current parking situation.

There are parking spaces (P1, P2, P4, P2 – P4 and P5) for short-term parkers near the terminal with direct access to the terminal buildings and reserved parking spaces for the disabled. The holiday car park P8-9 on the way to the hunter for long-term parkers is connected to the terminals by a free shuttle bus service.

From a parking period of more than 7 days, a parking space in parking lots P2 or P8-9 can be reserved in advance at reduced prices on the airport’s website. Via the provider Holiday Extras (Internet: www.holidayextras.de) inexpensive long-term parking spaces in the car parks P1 and P2 can be reserved in advance.
